SummerZoom: Princess of Corfe Castle

Richard

Proud and defiant, towering over the mist of the Purbeck Hills, Dorset's Corfe Castle steadfastly resisted the Parliamentarians under the leadership of the virtuous Lady Bankes during the English Civil War.

Tragically its seemingly impregnable walls eventually fell - but only after dark betrayal from within Lady Bankes' own entourage...

Today there is no 'king of the castle', but enthroned amidst the ruins one might catch a glimpse of a little princess, a picture of innocence, blissfully unaware of the bloodthirsty events that the stones once bore witness to.
